Personality, Psychological Mediators and Adherence to ART: A Correlational Clinical Study

Since the effectiveness of antiretroviral treatment (ART) depends on adherence, this study aimed to assess personality characteristics people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA)—by considering general patterns behavior and attitude—and verify its association perceived social support, expectation self-efficacy follow ART, biological markers adherence. This clinical, exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional was conducted PLWHA ART by means a structured questionnaire, scale support in HIV (PSS-HIV), Scale expectations adherence (SEA-ART) HumanGuide (HG) test. Scores indicative good prognosis PSS-HIV correlated higher CD4+ T cells lower viral load. Personality such as sociability optimism, ability deal changes, flexibility influenced support. Low were associated dependency approval recognition, while high when negative emotional physical conditions had positive impact Sense responsibility care for life cells. Thus, may influence psychological mediators terms can offer relevant information plan successful intervention PLWHA.
